Mdudu Boy Opens Palm Springs ShortFest 2016
“…English filmmaker Ella Smith of the Kenyan film, “Mdudu Boy,” the only one of the six opening night directors able to attend the first night festivities, said she was “thrilled” to be invited to the opening ceremonies with Matzner, du Toit and Mayor Rob Moon.
“I think Palm Springs is one of the most prestigious festivals, especially for short films,” she said following a photo session in the upstairs Camelot lounge. “It makes for an amazing event.”
Smith said she has to drive to Los Angeles Wednesday, but she’ll return to attend industry events Thursday and a second screening of her film at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. She has written a screenplay for another Kenyan film, titled “Wakora,” she said, and she just confirmed a date for an opportunity to pitch it as a feature project to an industry person.” Full article here.
